Manager Paul Cox pulled no punches in his summary of yesterday’s game. In an interview this morning he said “I thought we were very lucky to get away with a 0-0 draw.

"We had no fire, no passion and no desire and I will not tolerate that. We couldn’t even do the basics properly and our mentality wasn’t right. It was a totally unprofessional performance and I and my staff will this week be pro-active in making sure it is a one off. I would say only two players came out of that game with any credit and that was the centre backs, Paul Robinson and Tom Marshall. At this level of football you can’t have so many players having an off day and expect to pick up points. The only positive I can take from the game is we gained a point when we deserved nothing.

“The Chairman said a few weeks back, that we were going to have a few bloody noses along the way. I didn’t expect one to be against a team currently bottom of the league. If you think back a couple of weeks, that same team put in a great performance at Alfreton, and I am sure had we played Southport or Fleetwood yesterday, the performance would have been totally different. I’ll let you draw your own conclusions from that”

The game also saw a certain section of the crowd booing long before the final whistle and although Cox could sympathise there was concern that individual players were singled out.

“If I’d have paid my money to witness that performance, I would have booed at the final whistle. Everyone has the right to make their feelings know, however there is a time and a place and time is at the half or full whistle. At this crucial stage of the season we need everyone to be 100% united behind the eleven players on the pitch.

“Players were making mistakes all over the pitch, however only one or two players were singled out for criticism, and this will never have a positive effect on the players. The treatment Markel Bailey received by this small section of the crowd, certainly had a negative effect on the lad at a time when we were looking for Markel to help change the game.
