Thu, 4th March 2010
Eastwood cruised through to the Semi Finals of Nottinghamshire Senior cup at the expense of their Central Midlands Supreme opponents Kirkby Town.

With many Badgers getting their first glimpse of the new winger Sam Duncum, they didn’t have to wait too long before they saw his quality. In the fourth minute a good run and cross saw an Ian Holmes shot cannon off Seymour for a corner. Anton Foster fired wide from 35 yards but Eastwood opened the scoring in the 13th minute. Jon D'Laryea's through ball was flicked on by Danny Holland and Ian Holmes fired into the corner of the net past the stranded keeper Joe McCormack.

Meikle was unlucky to see a tremendous run and shot come back off the post and Holmes fired over after Holland’s flick on had found the striker in room, on the edge of the box.

D'Laryea doubled the lead in the 34th minute, after a great run and cross by Sam Duncum was headed back across goal by Holland and D'Laryea, arriving late in the box prodded home the loose ball.

A few minutes later Holland picked out Meikle whose cross-come-shot not only evaded the outstretched legs but the far post as well.

Eastwood's third was a strange affair on 42. Lindon Meikle centred into the box, defender Lawrence Gaughan retrieved the ball and his deflected cross went through to Paul Robinson and with the Kirkby team appealing for offside Robinson allowed the ball to cross the line.

Holmes scored the fourth within a minute of the restart. Duncum’s run and cross found Holmes in space. His header was saved by McCormack but Holmes stabbed home the loose ball.

McCormack denied Meikle by pushing his drive over and substitute David Brown cut inside his marker and drove the ball the wrong side of the post.

Danny Holland headed over an inviting Duncum cross and Holmes could have helped himself to a hat-trick when put through by Meikle, however McCormack made a good save to deny the striker.

Holland and Holmes were both close to getting onto Duncum’s cross as the Badgers continued to dominate.

McCormack pulled off another stunning save to deny Meikle, pushing the ball over the crossbar. However the relief was short lived as from the corner Holmes scored his third goal, heading home substitute Theo Stair's pinpoint cross into the box.

A great run from Anton Foster beat the offside trap, but his final ball into the box was too far in front of the waiting David Brown.

Ian Holmes wrapped up the scoring in the 84th minute. Anton Foster’s ball over the defence saw a half hearted appeal for offside as the defence stood still. Holmes beat the keeper to the loose ball and steered it into the open goal.

McCormack had the last word, denying Ian Holmes his fifth goal, after Anton Foster’s tenacity on the edge of the box had made the chance for him.
